Do you drink alcohol? If so, how do you feel the next day?

Over the last year, I have only had alcohol on a few occasions. Every time I have had two or more drinks, I have spent the entire weekend feeling horrible. I am not sure if our medication has an effect on how alcohol sits with us or if it is just me. - Heather R

  1. I do enjoy wine and cocktails. I try to be very cognizant of how I’m consuming them. I drink 1 glass of water for every glass of alcohol. I also limit the time frame I’m going to drink so I have a cut off time.

I do think the stress our meds put on our bodies necessitates being mindful of alcohol. Out kidneys and livers work hard to flush out the strong pills we take.

I used to take a medicine years ago that would make me extremely nauseous if I drank (crixivan).

I think everything in moderation. We have to take care of our bodies but we also have to live life. Take care.

    1. I try to mix water consumption in with my alcohol consumption as well. It just seems like my body has a hard time dealing with alcohol lately and I do not even drink that much. 2-3 drinks and I am feeling rough the next day.
I do think you are right about our kidneys and livers already having a hard time due to our medications. You are also correct about us having to live our lives regardless of our conditions and treatments.
I hope you have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Years. - Heather R

  2. Alafia (Peace) Thank you for your question. I am not certain that drinking and our meds have bad outcomes, especially if you aren't drinking very often. Khafre (H-I-V.net Team Member)
