Unprotected sex and symtoms

Stress is killing me, is my dry mouth a hiv / herpes sign?

Hey, I had an unprotected vaginal sex with someone who I don't know her hiv status.. big mistake.

Anyway, 5 days after the expsoure I got fever / headache, that went away 2 days ago but my blocked nose ( sometimes runny as well ) remained, and 10 days after exposure I got a dry mouth and yellow tongue that turned to white yesterday ( 11 days after exposure )

What are my chances?

  1. I'm glad you reached out, it can be so hard trying to find good and accurate information about HIV, there is a lot of stigma and misinformation out there. First, it sounds like you are not sure if these partners are people living with HIV, and even if they are, if someone is taking medication and has an undetectable viral load they cannot transmit the virus to others (more on that here: https://h-i-v.net/living/undetectable-untransmittable). In terms of symptoms, there are many things that may contribute to a runny nose and dry mouth. Those are not typically listed as early stage symptoms (more here: https://h-i-v.net/symptoms ) but we wouldn't be able to determine that for you.

That being said, there are many testing options if you believe you are at risk of contracting HIV. It may be helpful to know that window periods (the time before HIV would show up in a test) can vary (your doctor can help determine this) - more info on those window periods here: https://h-i-v.net/test-types. With that being said, it’s still important to get tested regularly and speak about any symptoms you have with a doctor you trust. Do you have a doctor like that? - Liz (Team Member)

    1. Alafia (Peace) We appreciate you reaching out to share your experience with us. The best way to settle your mind and anxiety is to get tested for HIV. I am not a medical professional so I can't speak to the symptoms you are experiencing and if they are related to exposure from HIV. Khafre (H-I-V.net Team Member)
