what was you HIV window period ?

I wonder, if you diagnosed recently (after 2015), what was your window period ? I mean anyone of you diagnosed within 6 weeks of exposure ? as we can see 99% information on internet claims that 6 weeks are enough to detect HIV. Please share your experiences.

  1. I am sorry to see you didn't get a response. Maybe I can help? How are you doing now? Have you been tested yet? - Liz (Team Member)

    1. Alafia (Peace) Thank you for taking the time to reach out to us here at H-I-V.net. What sources did you find on the internet? In my experience it can be a rabbit hole with many conflicting information. Can I ask why are you concerned about the window period? Do you think you were exposed? Khafre (H-I-V.net Team Member)

      1. Hi . Different tests have different window periods. I want to share with you this page from the CDC which gives an overview of the window periods for different tests: https://www.cdc.gov/hiv/basics/hiv-testing/hiv-window-period.html#:~:text=Most%20rapid%20tests%20and%20self,to%2045%20days%20after%20exposure.. Hope this information is helpful, but I also want to note that only trained medical professionals can provide the complete diagnostics. Wishing you the best and please know that this community is here for you. Richard (Team Member)

        1. Unfortunately, I was not diagnosed until years after I acquired HIV. I ended up in the hospital with PCP pneumonia and AIDS. That is how I found out.
I do believe there are different window periods for different tests. It is best to speak with a medical professional about the specific window period for the specific test that you took. Best wishes - Heather R (team member)
