Am I infected with HIV?

Hello!

Recently I had protected sex with a transgender sex-worker (both bottom & top), whose hiv status is unknown to me. I got tested negative twice, one after 33 days and the second after 76 days, using the combo test (antigen/antibody) with blood from my vein. Should I consider this as conclusive? Or should I retake the test after 90 days?

Also, I did not have any symptoms on the weeks after the intercourse.

Thanks!

  1. Hello, although we are not medical processionals I will try to provide you with as much information as I can. I understand that you have tested for HIV both 33 days and 76 days and both were negative. Are you familiar with the window period for HIV?

This is a great article that goes into the window period: https://h-i-v.net/test-types

    1. Hi Steven, thanks for your replya.

Although it says that the antigen/antibodie test can take up to 90 days, it says that it is the case for blood from the finger. For blood from the veins says that it can detect earlier, but does not say how much earlier.

I found a CDC article that saya that this type of tests have a window period of 18-45 days. Just wanted to have more than one source to calm down my anxiety.

      Thanks!!

      1. It is totally understandable. I would encourage you to take an HIV test at the 90 day mark as well just for peace of mind. I hope that the information we are providing you is calming you down. You have a support system here whenever you need it. - Steven (Team Member)

    2. Alafia (Peace) So glad you took the steps to get tested. Getting tested is a brave act. I would suggest getting tested again after 90 days. You are doing the work to take care of yourself and I applaud you for that. Khafre (H-I-V.net Team Member)
