Will the COVID-19 shot affect my HIV meds?

  1. Hi there, ! On December 29th, the CDC updated guidance on the COVID-19 vaccine for folks who have a weakened immune system, have autoimmune conditions, as well as other health conditions: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/recommendations/underlying-conditions.html. The CDC states that people who are HIV positive may receive the COVID mRNA vaccine with the understanding that there is limited safety data available at this time. What's encouraging to note here is that people who are HIV positive were included in clinical trials for the vaccine and so hopefully more information will be made available in the near future! I hope this information was helpful! - Best, Tahirah

    1. @Tahirah,
Thank you so much for posting this, as I was scared myself of the results of the vaccine with being HIV Positive. I did not know that they had included people in the trials. I will now go down the rabbit hole to see what has been going on. -Ze (H-I-V Team Member)
