Hiv testing

good evening everyone, I want to ask my question about a year ago, I had unprotected sex with a woman who was recently discovered to be HIV positive. Already Before I knew she was infected with HIV and After committing this stupidity of unprotected sex, I felt a certain fear and tension. I got tested after 4 months for unprotected penetration (hiv test) and I don't know the type or generation of the test and the result was negative. Is this result considered definitive and should it not be repeated, even if the test belonged to the first generation??? I'm scared, especially after learning from her that she was HIV positive? last week, I'm afraid

  1. Hi . I can feel your anxiety and it is good that you are seeking out proper information. I do need to tell you that we are not medical professionals and, for your protection, cannot provide medical advice over the internet. That said, I do want to share with you this article that discusses HIV transmission risks: https://h-i-v.net/transmission-risks. You can see that "Insertive penile-vaginal intercourse" is quite low at 0.04 percent. It is also noted that using a condom reduces the risk of transmission. Of course, every circumstance is different, so it is impossible to say what is the exact risk of transmission.
It sounds like, given the information that you had, you have done what you could in getting tested. You are correct that there are different types of tests, with different windows. This article from our editorial team discusses the different tests and window periods: https://h-i-v.net/test-types. You will note that none of the windows extend as far out as 4 months. That said, for your peace of mind, it may be useful to get retested. In fact, the CDC recommends regular STI testing be part of standard healthcare. I hope this information is helpful.
