What time of day should I take ARTs?

I am just curious and it is not really clear to me if what is really the time frame of taking ARTs. For example, I should take my meds every 9pm. Is it still ok if it’s already past 9pm? Like 20-30 mins late? Will it have some effects on the efficacy of the drugs? Or will it cause drug resistance?

  1. Hi . Concerns over time consistency on taking ARTs is certainly understandable. It is best if you can take the medications at the same time everyday. This article from our editorial team looks at treatment adherence: https://h-i-v.net/adherence-resistance. Most of the the research focuses on what to do if a medication dose is missed or the impact of not adhering to a treatment regimen. That said, as noted in this article (see: https://h-i-v.net/art-therapy), blood tests will monitor how an individual is responding to the medication, including any drug resistance. It is good that you are monitoring and trying to adhere to the regimen and wishing you the best moving forward. Please feel free, if you like, to keep us posted on how you are doing. 1. Alafia (Peace) Absolutely, take your meds even if its 20 minutes or even an hour past your appointed time. Just make sure you don't wait until the next day. Great question. We are glad you found us. Khafre (H-I-V.net Team Member)

      1. Alafia (Peace) I want to take the time to check in with you to see if you have settled on a time to take your meds? Is it working for you? We hope to hear from you soon. Khafre (H-I-V.net Team Member)
