Obstacles with Diagnosis

What was your biggest obstacle with finding out your diagnosis?

I think that my biggest obstacle has been facing the stigma.

  1. Stigma was a big one for me, but it wasn't the stigma from society it was the stigma I created in my head that internalized stigma and once I got over that I was just fine..

    1. I think you're so right, and I still am struggling with this. A lot of the time I am not sure if I have made it up in my head or not. I am working on getting over the internalized stigma, and the thoughts from society. Thank you for your reply! -Ze (Team Member)

    2. your welcome.. in your time you will begin to deal with it..

  2. Alafia (Peace) Disclosure was the biggest obstacle for me. Khafre (H-I-V.net Team Member)

    1. Alafia (Peace) I shared earlier my was disclosure. What I didn't share was that it took me nearly five years to share my status with my MaDear. Until that time only one part knew I was living with HIV. Khafre (H-I-V.net Team Member)

      1. My biggest obstacle was telling my children, who'd lost their dad a few months earlier.

        1. that does sound like a big obstacle, made even more challenging with the loss of their dad. How did it go telling your children? I'm not sure how old your children were, or how things went, but we do have a forum post where community members shared about telling their kids that you might be interested in, https://h-i-v.net/forums/parenting. Wishing you a gentle day. -- Warmly, Christine (Team Member)
