Pending Results

It’s been 7 coming up to 8 months since my last sexual encounter. After 3 months I began to experiment discomfort and had trouble urinating, the internet diagnosis is a plethora of different STDs and infections. Ultimately I went to an urgent care and they prescribed me antibiotics after taking them I began to feel better. However I was still scared about HIV. I got blood work done and I still have heard back, I have an appointment in two weeks and the anxiety is getting to me. I got my blood work done the day before Xmas Eve and I have yet to hear anything. If it was bad I would’ve known by now right?

  1. Thank you for reaching out, especially when you're feeling as worried as you are. Waiting for the results of any test can be so difficult. We are not medical professionals who would be able to determine what your results may say. The fact that you were responsive to antibiotics is good, I am glad you're feeling better.

First, have you called your doctor to find out if you can receive your results in another way before appointment? Some hospitals and labs have online portals you can register for that can provide you information before going into the doctor in person.

In terms of HIV transmission, this article can give you a sense for your level of risk: https://h-i-v.net/testing-who-should. Finally, remember there are many false messages out there about living with HIV that can feed this anxiety. I know you are worried about a positive result. If that is the case, we can help you connect with a community of many people living with HIV and managing very, very well. I hope you keep us posted on how you are doing and that we can support you! - Liz (Team Member)

    2. Alafia (Peace) We appreciate you reaching out to us and sharing your experience. In my opinion regardless of the results you should have been contacted and given an appointment to find out the outcome. Khafre (H-I-V.net Team Member)
