Possible symptoms

I had protected vaginal sex with a female sex worker on 22 July. On day 38 I did a laboratory 4th gen antibody/antigen test that came back negative. Before then I’d had numbness in my right arm and a cough. Since this negative test I’ve had a sore throat and what look more like insect bites (but could be a rash) appear on leg (4 spots on 2 and 1 on the other). Those appeared 5 days ago and itched for a day or 2 but are now fine and fading. However today a small cluster on my waist (5 bumps) and one other red mark on my wrist appeared. I’ve had no other potential symptoms. I submitted another test on Thursday (48 days after exposure) and waiting on those results. Separately I visited my doctor for the numb arm (that comes and goes) but didn’t mention HIV concerns. I have a slightly low white blood cell count but don’t know if this is normal or not. They want to run more blood tests at the start of next month. Based on this information how likely is it I have HIV? Has anyone else experienced these mild symptoms and tested either positive or negative? I have not had sex since and I am worried sick, can’t sleep more than about an hour a night

  1. have you received the results of your Thursday test yet?

I am glad you are bringing this up because it can be so hard to wait and wonder what is going on in your body. We are not medical professionals so cannot interpret your personal risk, but can provide you with information I hope will help. Let us know if you got those results yet, and if not, we can give you some information to review in the meantime to help in your conversations with your doctor.

    1. Not as yet but I spoke with a health care professional yesterday and went through all my symptoms and she said it was very unlikely to be HIV. I’m hoping for a negative result in the next couple of days so I can hopefully draw a line under this. The internet is a scary place and this has taken over my life the last few weeks. This is a great resource, it felt helpful to write everything down as I have nobody I can speak to. Just have to hope for good news now.

      1. Hi, good news a test plus 90 days is negative. Just wanted to say what a great resource this is for people and I’ve learned a valuable lesson.

        1. Alafia (Peace) I am so glad to hear that your test at 90 days came back negative. Thank you for reaching back out to share your experience with H-I-V.net with us. Khafre (H-I-V.net Team Member)

      2. Alafia (Peace) Wkd227 , I totally understand where you are coming from with your concerns. You have definitely done the right thing by going to get tested. When will you receive your results? Until then try to relax and educate yourself about HIV transmission. Please let us know how things turn out for you. Khafre (H-I-V.net Team Member)
