Re-infection danger?

I was infected in May 2023 and I am now on Juluca (1 pill daily). No symptoms so far, everything is fine. What happens if I get infected again, with a different strain of HIV? Will that neutralize my current treatment?

  1. I'm on the same pill I living with Hiv all my life since birth I have 1 child that's not infected with hiv because of juluca an I'm 37 an my son is 17

    1. Hi . I want to share with you this page from the CDC on getting infected with a second strain of HIV: https://www.cdc.gov/hiv/basics/hiv-transmission/hiv-superinfection.html#:~:text=If%20I%20already%20have%20HIV,along%20with%20the%20original%20strain. They note that it is possible for the new strain to be resistant to the medicine that an individual is taking for the original strain, but it is also stated that hard-to-treat second infection is rare. Hope this information is helpful and please know that this community is here for you. Best, Richard (Team Member)

      1. Thank you for your reply! This is a scary possibility and it seems to be taboo, people don't like to talk about it.

    2. Alafia (Peace) I am not a medical expert but I will share my experience with you. From what I know it is possibile to get a resistant strain. In that case it may be more difficult to find a treatment which works for you. Khafre (H-I-V.net Team Member)

      1. Thank you very much for your reply. I guess we have to take extra caution, then.

      2. Alafia (Peace) Yes, we do have to be extra caution. Thank you for checking in with us. Khafre (H-I-V.net Team Member)
