Xerostomia

Do you experience lack of saliva, dry mouth, problem with eating?

  1. Hi . I can't personally speak to this issue, but this article on the topic notes that "Studies have shown that 40% or more of people with HIV experience major xerostomia during their disease course:" https://aidsetc.org/blog/short-bites-xerostomia-patients-hiv. Of course, only a doctor can provide the proper diagnostics. Have you had a chance to ask your doctor about this issue? Hopefully others will chime in with their experiences. 1. Thank you

      1. I had unprotected contact with hiv + person 6 years ago and in March this year I lost my saliva. I test negatief to all viruses. I do not drink alkohol, do not smoke, do not take drugs of medicines, do not have Sjogren. It was my only risk factor. I can not eat and I can not live in this way.

        1. Hi . It is clear that this issue is causing you a lot of anxiety and people here understand that feeling. It is important to realize that, as discussed in this page on the topic from the Cleveland Clinic, there are a lot of potential causes of xerostomia: https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/10902-dry-mouth-xerostomia. I want to note that we are not medical professionals and, for your protection, cannot give medical advice over the internet. It is good sign that you tested negative for various viruses. Hopefully a doctor can find the cause of your dry mouth issue. Best, Richard (Team Member)

      2. Thank you for answer.
Recently I have read about discovery of delta virus in minor salivary glands of people with Sjogren like symptoms in Utah. It can be the cause of lack of saliva in my case. I just want to mention about this discovery. Maybe somebody has similar symptoms to me.
