Hi im a medical doctor i was taking a blood test for a patient (female) hiv status is unkown, when i was taking the needle out the needle scratched my glove , but my finger has bo scratches or blood visible what is the risk for getting hiv

  1. Hi . I need to stress that we are not medical professionals and, for your protection, cannot give medical advice over the internet. I do want to share with you this article from our editorial team on HIV transmission risk: https://h-i-v.net/transmission-risks. It notes that the risk from an accidental needle stick is 0.23 percent. Considering that you are seeing no signs of penetration/breaking of the skin, the risk should be quite low. Of course, the only way to be sure is testing which is why the CDC recommends testing for STIs to be a regular part of health maintenance. Best, Richard (Team Member)
