Can I Get HIV from Oral Sex?

Hi, I'm a 20y old man and I never before had sexual action until 2 days ago.

Unprotected blowjob

I was drunk with 2 of my friends and we picked up a sex worker and she gave me an unprotected blowjob for like 2 min. I regret it and I actually cried yesterday. I don't know what to do.

What are the chances that I have HIV now?

  1. Hi - thanks for submitting your question here. This is an important question related to HIV transmission. I understand you’re feeling overwhelmed and I hope I can give you some helpful information. When it comes to oral sex, the transmission rates are very low. With that being said, some things can increase the risk or transmission from oral sex like sores in the mouth or or on the penis, and the presence of other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).

The risk of HIV transmission through oral sex is even lower if the HIV-negative person using meds to prevent HIV like pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP).

It's definitely recommended that anyone who believes they have been exposed to HIV to get tested. Have you been tested, or have you spoken to your doctor since this took place?

    1. Alafia (Peace) , Jake has provided you with a great response. I would only add that if you ever find yourself in this position again you might want to access PEP, Post Exposure Prophylaxis. Which can reduce the transmission of HIV after unprotected sex if taken within 72 hours I believe. Khafre (Team Member)
