My HIV Tale

I am a complete introvert who takes long walks, weather permitting. I live in Vegas, so I don't walk much in early June - early to mid-September.

One wild night

Anyway, one Saturday or Sunday in late 2005, I'm cutting through the Commercial Center when I discover that one of the buildings there is now a men’s only club. A bathhouse. A really fun, awesome bathhouse. The air in the “dark room” was thick with that popper smell. I'm a marijuana user. I never cared for poppers myself. I had so much fun that night! Plus, the anonymity was also a turn on. No one asked my name. I didn't ask anyone their's.

Getting a surprise call

Since the mid-80s I was a three-time-a-year blood doner. Shortly after my February 2007 blood donation, I got word from United Blood Services that they needed to see me. By March of 2007 I had an infectious disease doctor who put me on Atripla. 6 months later, I was, and still am to this day, undetectable.

Undetectable and thriving

Around the fall of 2019, my infectious disease doctor retired. So, I began with a new ID doctor who started me on Biktarvy. Still taking that today. I retired from the school district a couple of years back. Now I am retired and I board/walk dogs through the Wag and Rover apps. That's my story and I'm sticking to it…Ethel and me
