Anyone Else Having Trouble Getting Dolutegravir Lately?

Hi everyone,

Just checking if anyone else has noticed issues getting Dolutegravir lately.

Someone I know tried to refill their regular regimen, but the pharmacy told them it’s temporarily unavailable. They’re now trying to figure out whether to switch to another option until stock returns.

If you’ve experienced something similar, did your doctor suggest an alternative?
And how did the switch go in terms of side effects or overall stability?

Your experiences could really help others dealing with the same situation.

Thanks!

  1. Hi . I can tell you that "As of late 2025, there are no official reports of a nationwide shortage of dolutegravir in the United States." You can find the database to search drug shortages here: https://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/drugshortages/default.cfm. This does not mean that there is not some sort of local issue or shortage. I also want to share with you this page from the federal government HIV site on "Antiretroviral Medications That Can Be Switched Temporarily If Unable to Access Certain Formulations:" https://clinicalinfo.hiv.gov/en/guidelines/guidelines-caring-people-hiv-displaced-disasters/appendix-c-antiretroviral-medications. Of course, anyone should speak with their doctor about options and what would work best in an individual case. Best, Richard (Team Member)

  2. Temporary shortages can happen in some areas. If Dolutegravir isn't available, it's important to speak with your healthcare provider before making any changes to your treatment. In many cases, they can recommend a suitable alternative or help locate another pharmacy with stock. Avoid stopping or switching HIV medication without medical advice.

    1. Hi . At this time there is still no shortages identified by the FDA (anyone can check specific drugs at the site I posted above). That said, if a person is having trouble getting Dolutegravir or any HIV medication they can use local pharmacy locators or speak to their pharmacist to find out where the drug may be available, contact a local HIV care provider, or call a Ryan White Program number for assistance. Hope this information is helpful to any community members with medication issues. Best, Richard (Team Member)
