CD4/CD8

Since I had so many symptoms after sexual intercourse (generalized lymph swelling, bleeding gums, joint pain, weakness) I had an anti-HIV test and it was negative. But my doctor wanted CD4 and CD8 tests because he suspected HIV subtypes.

TEN MONTHS AFTER THE SEXUAL AFFAIR, WE UNDERSTAND THAT THE CD4 COUNT IS 1100 AND THE RATIO OF CD4/CD8 2.2. HOW CAN YOU INTERPRET THIS? WHAT ARE THE CD4 NUMBERS AND RATIOS OF THE POSITIVE INDIVIDUALS IN 10 MONTHS IN GENERAL?

  1. We cannot directly interpret your test results because we are not medical professionals, and even if we were, we couldn't interpret the results in the context of your care. Do you feel you can talk to your doctor openly, and are they responsive to your questions?

We can provide some general information, though, that I hope will be helpful. A normal CD4 count in a healthy individual can be anywhere from 500-1,500 cells/microliter. Well-controlled HIV is considered to be around 200 copies per milliliter or less. (more on viral load here: https://h-i-v.net/blood-test )
