Depression.

Hello im not new to the hiv status but after graduation just recently i have been feeling down. I was planning to look jobs abroad. But living hiv it seems like it would be difficult. Priority was suppossed to be Australia but the visa for the healthcare seems like unattainable. I just feel like if i have done better i wouldnt be in this situation. I just feel like shit for living without a care in the world and regret it in the end..

  1. Hello , first of all I want to thank you for starting a conversation here and being so open and vulnerable with how you're feeling. I can hear the regret that you're feeling and the frustration in wanting to be able to live abroad and the challenges that might face because of healthcare and visas. Please know that this community is here for you!

We are not medical professionals, but I'm wondering if you have ever spoken with a mental health professional? I ask because we can oftentimes get so focused on our physical health that mental health gets set aside, yet it is just is important to help manage as physical health. I wanted to share this article from our editorial team with a general overview of mental health, https://h-i-v.net/mental-health. One of our health leaders has also written several articles about their mental health journey and I wanted to link one of them here for you as well, https://h-i-v.net/living/major-depressive-disorder.

I do hope that, in addition to the support here, you can get some professional support as well to help you navigate next steps and getting yourself to where you want to be (both mentally and physically). Please don't hesitate to reach out here with any questions, concerns, or if you could use more support. Sending you gentle hugs. -- Warmly, Christine (Team Member)

    1. i havent really talk to anyone about it. Im too ashamed to share to anyone about my status

  2. Hi . You are not alone. There are plenty of people here who have or do struggle with feelings of guilt and depression. I want to share with you this article from one of your fellow community members on dealing with those feelings: https://h-i-v.net/stories/diagnosis-shame-support. You will note the title of the article is "To Err is Human" and this is very true. No one deserves this or the stigma that often comes with it. As our contributor Dee discusses here, mental health is part of health and it is important to prioritize it: https://h-i-v.net/living/depression-anxiety. Our editorial team discusses coping and resources here: https://h-i-v.net/depression-anxiety. It is a great step that you reached out here and I want to let you know that this community is here for you. Please feel free to keep us posted on how you are doing. Best, Richard (Team Member)
