My Journey with HIV- Medicine, Support and Self-Care

Living with HIV is tough, but taking my medicine every day helps me stay healthy. Talking to friends and support groups has made me feel less alone. Eating well, exercising, and resting also help me feel better. It’s not always easy, but I’m learning to live well and stay hopeful

  1. Hi , thank you so much for sharing what has been helping you stay healthy. Medicine, support, and self-care can be such important parts of taking care of yourself, and I can hear how helpful they have been for you. Can I ask if you have a specific diet or exercise routine that you find most enjoyable or helpful? I know everyone is different, but I just wanted to offer you the opportunity to share more about what you enjoy! Wishing you a gentle day. -- Warmly, Christine (Team Member)

  2. 11 years living with hiv positive

    1. Hi . How are you currently doing? Hope your treatment, support, and overall life are going well. Best, Richard (Team Member)

  3. I’ve been having symptoms and just got diagnosed last week
It’s driving me crazy and I have no one to talk to, not even the guy I’m seeing, I’m just distant from everyone now and drowning in sadness and loneliness

    1. Hi . Things may seem dark and lonely right now, but there are people who understand. There are also resources and support. I want to share with you this extensive Forum discussion on advice for the newly diagnosed: https://h-i-v.net/forums/newly-diagnosed-support. Also, a couple of our contributors wrote some thoughts for the newly diagnosed here: https://h-i-v.net/living/monitoring-health and here: https://h-i-v.net/living/treatment-newly-diagnosed. There are a number of other articles for the newly diagnosed, if interested, but I don't want to inundate you with too many links - my point is that there is information and support here.
Besides getting the diagnosis, have you met with the doctor to discuss treatment plans and local supports? Treatments have changed dramatically over the years and a full and happy life is absolutely possible (see: https://h-i-v.net/treatment). It is also likely that there are more sources of support than you realize. Please feel free to keep us posted on how you are doing and to ask questions - this community is here for you. Best, Richard (Team Member)

  4. Thank you for all your kind words of encouragement and affirmation and i will check out all of these forum discussions but does this particular community exist outside this website? Is there anywhere else we discuss?

    1. Hi . While this is the primary location for this community, we do also have a Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/HIVdotnet. I do want to note that the articles that are posted on the Facebook site are the articles from this site. Please feel free to let us know if you have additional questions.
