PREP+Preservative: risks.

I am using PREP+Condom. Initially I started with two tablets (loading dose), on the 3rd day I had passive intercourse (with condom) with a transsexual. Do you think there is any risk?

  1. Hi . It is good that you are seeking to be safe in your sexual activity. While there may be some protection from PREP, it is generally accepted that full effectiveness against HIV exposure from anal sex takes seven days (see: https://h-i-v.net/living/facts-prep and https://www.acog.org/womens-health/experts-and-stories/the-latest/7-things-to-know-about-prep-the-medication-that-prevents-hiv). That said, this article discusses transmission risks (https://h-i-v.net/transmission-risks) and notes that these are estimates and that individual circumstances, such as wearing a condom matter. These estimates also assume exposure, which depends on whether the other person is infected. Of course, the only way to be sure is through testing, which is why the CDC recommends regular testing as part of sexual health. Hope this information helps. Best, Richard (Team Member)

    1. Thanks, Richard. I am following the new protocol from WHO, thats differente from CDC... I taked 2 pills before sex and continued to intake daily... But theres 2 consenses, I believe: from CDC and WHO. https://iris.who.int/bitstream/handle/10665/378164/9789240097230-eng.pdf?sequence=1

      1. Thanks, Richard. I'm following the WHO consensus. I know thats 2: from CDC e WHO. Who say "take 2 pills from 2 until 24 hours before exposition and CDC 7 days. Its a little confuse to me.
