Worried about HIV/syphilis from kissing and rimming

Hello everyone,

I am a 27-year-old male from Vietnam. I am feeling very anxious about a possible HIV or syphilis risk.

I only kissed my partner, and my partner briefly performed rimming (licking my anus), but only on the outside.

There was no penetration and no other sexual activity.

Since then, I have been very worried and keep checking my body for red spots or other marks, fearing it could be syphilis.

It has been about [number of days] days since the encounter.

My question is: Do I need to get tested for HIV or syphilis from this kind of contact? What is the actual risk?

I am very stressed and would greatly appreciate some advice.

Thank you so much.

  1. Hello , I want to note that we are not medical professionals, so we cannot provide medical advice or make any diagnosis. I do, however, want to share this article about transmission risks, https://h-i-v.net/transmission-risks. You will note that non-insertive contact isn't even listed, and oral sex (which might include rimming, although I can not be certain) was less than .04%, which is quite low.

Of course, circumstances can vary and the only way to be sure is through testing. This article gives an overview of testing as well as the recommended window for when the tests are most accurate, https://h-i-v.net/test-types. As you also mention a concern for syphilis, I am sharing another article about STIs (sexually transmitted infections), https://h-i-v.net/std.

Truly the best thing for peace of mind, as I can hear how stressed you have been about this, would be through testing.

I hope that this information in helpful. -- Wishing you a gentle day, Christine (Team Member)
