Worried uk healthcare will turn into USA style

Hi I’m in the uk and have been hiv positive for around 15 years and also undetectable ,we as a country like many others are going through some crap at the moment . Worried that a change of government in the near future is going to scrap the nhs system and we will end up paying for our drugs like the USA health system operates . I’m lucky I don’t have to pay for my anti virals and I’ve been stockpiling my drugs over the years and have managed a good extra stash of my drugs for emergency’s . But you hear all the horror stories of us hiv positive folk having to pay thousands for your meds in the us and other countries , how do you do it ?

  1. Hi . Many here understand your concerns when it comes to cost of care. There may still be options and assistance. For instance, while far from perfect, there are some patient assistance programs in the U.S. (see here: https://h-i-v.net/living/financial-burden and here for example: https://files.hiv.gov/s3fs-public/2023-11/PAP-CAP-Resources-for-Accessing-HIV-Treatment-FAQ.pdf). I will note that it seems as if you are doing what you can and that what any changes to the current system in your country are an unknown. Stress certainly doesn't do a body good. Are their organizations you can work with to advocate for care? Best, Richard (Team Member)
